Wootton

Discover Wootton

Wootton Creek has been used as a waterway and port for many, many years. The Romans landed cargo here, and monks from nearby Quarr Abbey had a fishery at the mouth. The group of houses clustered around The Sloop Inn, known for its stonebaked pizzas, are the oldest in the village. They are thought to be over 250 years old.

Wootton is a very popular haunt for leisure yachtsmen. The village has a number of local shops and a scattering of pubs. As well as this, the village is a stop on the line of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, a perfectly preserved railway which is one of the Island’s most popular visitor attractions.
