The Isle of Wight is lucky enough to have a few species of animals and wildlife that are found here, but nowhere or very few places anywhere else in the UK.
As an island, we are a stronghold for Britain’s native squirrel, the red squirrel, with over 3,500 here.
The elusive Glanville Fritillary Butterfly also calls the Island home. The Isle of Wight is also being used as a testing site for the reintroduction of species. These species include the white tailed eagle, and soon, (possibly) beavers.
The various Isle of Wight animal attractions offer visitors a great opportunity to get up close with exotic animals. Such as lemurs and wallabies. Amazon World, Tapnell Farm Park and the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary (formerly Isle of Wight Zoo) all offer various animal encounter experiences.
