Godshill

Discover Godshill

The church at Godshill sits upon a small hill, and as the village name implies, it can be seen for miles around. A local legend tells of a time when the church was being built on a site at the bottom of the hill. Each morning, the villagers found the masonry moved miraculously up to the top. This, to them, was a clear sign of divine intervention that the church should be built on top of the hill.

The church, flanked by beautiful thatched cottages, is an image that has adorned many a chocolate box, shortcake tin and jigsaw puzzle over the years. Below the church, there is another lovely collection of thatched cottages. As well as various tearooms, pubs and shops. These include The Old Smithy and the well-known Godshill Model Village attraction, which is well worth a visit.
