Shanklin Chine is one of the Island’s oldest attractions. A Site of Important Nature Conservation – this stunning tree-lined gorge has been a magnet for visitors since 1817.

Wander amid the natural tranquillity until dusk, then enjoy the lights illuminating the narrow paths, streams and waterfalls in the evening. Seasonal exhibitions, tea gardens, nature displays and an antiques gift centre.

Open since 1817, the Chine was a favourite of many artists, poets and authors such as Thomas Rowlandson, John Keats and even Charles Dickens. Historically, the Chine was said to be frequented by many royals, including Queen Victoria.

Set in the conservatory, the tearoom not only serves quality homemade scones with cream teas but also sandwiches, paninis and jacket potatoes. The outside seating makes for a relaxed afternoon.
