Parkhurst Forest is one of the oldest forests in the country, combining ancient woodland with open heathland and grassland. Located on the Isle of Wight, it is a rich and varied landscape supporting rare plant life and a wide range of wildlife.

This diverse forest is home to rare species and a wide range of habitats, supporting wildlife such as red squirrels and many notable birds, including nightjar, woodcock, garden warbler and woodpeckers. A network of paths winds through the woodland and heath, making it an ideal destination for gentle walks and fresh-air adventures among some of the Island’s most beautiful scenery.

Visitors are welcome to relax with a picnic in the forest – just bring good food and good company, and please leave barbecues at home to help protect the landscape. The forest also offers excellent opportunities for horse riding, with gravel tracks available for off-bridleway riding. Shared use paths encourage patience and respect between visitors, helping everyone enjoy this special woodland safely and responsibly.
