Beaches in the South

Once the Island’s best kept beach secret, tucked away between the Undercliff and Ventnor, is Steephill Cove. A delightful little cove where you can still see traditional fishermen at work, as well as enjoy the fruits of their labour with a fresh crab sandwich from one of the beach cafés. There’s just a handful of buildings right on the water’s edge, and the cove can only be accessed on foot, so there are no cars to contend with. A relatively shingly beach (so sea shoes are a good idea here) Ventnor Beach is a great sun trap making it perfect for sunbathing. There’s a wide variety of cafés, restaurants and pubs along the esplanade spilling out onto the seafront and the backdrop of the town rising up the cliffs, makes Ventnor Beach feel decidedly Mediterranean. Ventnor Haven Fishery sits at the end bottom of the cascades where fishermen come in and out landing their catches throughout the day. You can buy their wares from the onsite stall.
