What’s better than after a chilly winter walk than cosying up by the fire in one of the many great pubs the Island has to offer? If you’re planning a short break on the Isle of Wight and looking for places to stay, have you considered one of our wonderful pubs and inns? The fun does not have to stop at the bar, as many characterful pubs offer accommodation throughout the year. We thought we’d start you off with a few suggestions of where you might like to stay.
The Spyglass Inn, Ventnor
This multi-award-winning pub sits at the end of Ventnor Esplanade and has one of the most spectacular views, not only on the Island, but quite possibly in the UK (now that’s an achievement).
A traditional pub where all are welcome from children to dogs to muddy walkers. Cosy up with a pint of local ale by the fire or take in the wintry sea landscape… it does not disappoint no matter the time of year.
When staying at The Spyglass Inn there are four self-contained apartments, each with views of Ventnor Bay. On arrival you’ll receive a breakfast hamper which you can prepare in your own kitchenette. Dogs aren’t excluded either as they are welcome in the Gun Deck apartment.
The Boathouse, Seaview
Situated in the pretty seaside village of Seaview, The Boathouse offers superb award-winning food. If you’ve taken a bracing stroll along the seafront you can pop in for a drink and warm up beside the log burning fire.
Recently tipped as one of the top bed and breakfasts in the UK, there are three rooms each exquisitely decorated, echoing the sea landscape visible from each of the rooms. Book either a double, twin or family room – which sleeps four. On those less than favourable winter days make a coffee from the in-room facilities and enjoy the view or maybe cosy up and watch a film using the DVD player supplied.
The Chequers Inn, Rookley
If you are looking for a traditional country pub surrounded by rolling fields then The Chequers is a must. A family-run pub which is extremely family-friendly with outdoor and indoor activities to keep the kids entertained all year round.
Famous for its Sunday carvery, the pub is a perfect choice for a hearty lunch and a local brew. When staying in one of the three luxury B&B rooms you’ll enjoy stunning views of the local countryside. With miles of footpaths surrounding you, pop on your walking boots to explore the Island before coming back to the pub to warm up, you’re then only a few steps from your room to get ready for dinner.
The Highdown Inn, Totland
The West Wight has some of the most spectacular, unspoiled views the Isle of Wight has to offer and The Highdown Inn is set right in the heart of it.
Known for its use of seasonal produce, sample some of the freshest ingredients and produce from the ever-changing specials board. Get comfy and warm by the log fire and maybe try a game dish.
