This year marks the amazing milestone Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, that’s an incredible 70 years since she took to the throne. To mark the occasion, many Isle of Wight businesses and attractions are having a jubilant Jubilee with various events and activities.
Arreton Barns – Jubilee Celebrations
The Isle of Wight’s largest arts and crafts centre, Arreton Barns is holding a weekend of Jubilee themed events to celebrate 70 years of Queen Elizabeth on the throne.
On Saturday 4th June between 10am – 4pm the Barns will have a whole host of things going on. Wander the stalls, take part in the Jubilee treasure trail (£1 each), play games at the traditional fairground and get crafty crown making with Creaturama. There’s also live entertainment and so much more.
From 1pm on Saturday there will be a children’s tea party with food kindly donated by Asda.
The entire event is free to enter but donations are gratefully appreciated as the event will be raising money for Aspire in Ryde.
On Sunday 5th June there will also be a Jubilee Shindig from noon through to 6.30pm at The Dairyman’s Daughter. Enjoy live music and morris dancing in the courtyard all afternoon. A great way to finish the long bank holiday weekend.
Northwood House – Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Picnic in the Park
There’s a right, royal affair at Northwood as they hold a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Picnic in the Park on 5th June. Pack those picnic baskets and dust off those blankets and get ready head down to Northwood Park to join in the fun from 12pm on Sunday 5th June.
The event is being organised and hosted by Northwood House Charitable Trust on behalf of Cowes Town Council and other community partners who are contributing funds to pay for the event.
Admission is free with everyone welcome…just bring a picnic, friends and family (even your four legged pal is welcome to come along too). A full list of activities and entertainment will be available nearer the time but you can expect live music all afternoon, a children’s arena with games and entertainment, a fun dog show and local community stalls.
Northwood House Tea Room will also be open for cream teas, along with a BBQ, plus the Lawn Bar is open from 11.30am until 6pm for Pimm’s on the lawn and refreshments.
The event is able to take place due to generous funding from Cowes Town Council and various local organisations.
The Royal Hotel – Jubilee Weekend
Is there any better place to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee than The Royal, Ventnor? Their Jubilee weekend includes four themed events taking place from Friday 3rd – Sunday 5th June. Everyone is welcome to attend but there are limited spaces.
Kicking things off is the Family Day event on Friday 3rd from 1 – 4pm. A Royal buffet with afternoon tea sandwiches and cakes is available plus children can wear their Royal outfits and come as kings, queens or princes and princesses. There’s also a Day at the Races champagne event, where ladies donning the best hair accessory will win a prize. The Platinum Gala dinner and the Jubilee lunch are sure to sell tickets fast. Libraries
Something that is so British and much loved but often forgotten, our libraries. We are lucky enough to still have a few amazing libraries on the Island so why not show your support to them over the Jubilee Weekend (and beyond) and visit one of their events.
Cowes library is hosting a words and silhouettes event. A free family workshop where you can create your own poetry and artwork celebrating our unique and wonderful Island home. Booking is essential (01983 293341).
Freshwater library has two days of fun things to do. Starting on 31st May author Jules Marriner will be reading her book Royal Fleas to children. The event is suitable for little ones over 3 years old. After the reading there will be some time for crafts plus there’s an opportunity to win a Royal Fleas book. Come dressed as royalty (anyone/ however you like) the most inventive and imaginative wins! On Saturday 4th June join the Garden Coffee Morning from 10.30am – 12.30pm. Enjoy tea, coffee and cake with a ukulele band playing in the background.
Ryde library invites you to drop by in advance to enter their Platinum Jubilee Gallery. Exhibit your artwork or written words to celebrate this most special occasion. The event is open to all with various categories. The exhibition runs from 1st – 30th June.
Towns
Celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee in the Isle of Wight’s county town, Newport on Saturday 4th June 2022.
There will be a grand parade starting at 3pm from Recreation Ground Road down towards Newport Quay. In St James’s Square there will be a big screen showing jubilee broadcasts and Platform One will be performing there between 10am – 6pm.
At St Thomas Square enjoy a traditional market with local producers, artisans and business owners which will be open 9am – 4pm, plus there will be lots of street entertainment too.
The event is being held with thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund and brought to you by Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council, Market Days CIC, Newport Business Association, Isle of Wight Council and Platform One.
Please note; Lower High Street & St James’ Square will be closed to vehicles all day, there will be entertainment and performers in the street. Upper High Street will also be closed during the parade.
