Classic cars, buses, motorbikes, tractors, auto trucks and traction engines will be among the vintage vehicles heading to the Watercress Line’s Ropley and Alresford stations next month for a very special event.
A weekend of nostalgia is planned from Friday May 20th to Sunday May 22nd, with a wonderful display of the yesteryear vehicles appearing alongside the Watercress Line’s fantastic heritage locomotives.
The vintage and retro cars, motorbikes and tractors will be on show in the top car park at Ropley Station, with traction engines in the lower station car park. The vintage buses will be at Alresford – with several steam trains running along the Watercress Line’s famous 10 mile route regularly for visitors to hop on and off to view everything on display. There will be a special evening train on Saturday 21st May.
Full size and miniature traction engines and steam lorries will be on display from 10.30am to 5pm each day and there will be steam crane demonstrations.
Many of the visiting exhibits are from the local area, with most using their own power – one traction engine is travelling under its own steam from Dorset.
Visitors can enjoy refreshments at Alresford’s West Country Buffet and Ropley’s T-Junction and Beer Junction – or bring a picnic to enjoy in the sunshine.
The Watercress Line’s Acting Managing Director Alison Houghton said: “The Vintage Vehicles weekend will be a wonderful opportunity for enthusiasts to get up close to some fantastic examples of different modes of transport from Britain’s industrial past.”
