Pantomimes are as much a part of Christmas as mince pies and mulled wine… oh no they’re not… oh yes they are! The Isle of Wight has two pantos to look forward to that will keep everyone from 2 to 82 laughing all the way.

Beauty and the Beast – Shanklin Theatre

Spotlight, one of the Island’s talented acting groups is once again putting on a spectacular show at Shanklin Theatre. This year’s panto is telling a tale as old as time, Beauty and the Beast. Telling the story of a horribly arrogant prince who is cursed to look like a horrifying monster and told he must find true love in order to transform him back into a human, proving that love is more than superficial looks. It follows the Beast as he kidnaps a girl from the local village and how their relationship grows over time, will she be the one to break the curse? Will the actors manage to get in a scene where a couple of cast members get covered in gunge?

It’s a fast-paced, family fun panto packed with songs, encouraging audience participation, special effects and of course a few surprises.

Not sure if you like pantos? Comments the cast hear after people have seen their shows are,

‘I didn’t think I liked pantomimes until I saw yours’, or ‘I was dragged along by my kids to see this, and I’m really glad I was’.
